EQUIVALENT ARRANGEMENTS ACCEPTED UNDER REGULATION I/5
STATEMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

The
Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization has the honour to
transmit herewith the text of a statement by the Government of the Russian
Federation on equivalent arrangements accepted under regulation 1/5 of the
above Convention.
The
Secretary-General would be grateful if steps could be taken to bring this
information to the attention of the appropriate authorities.

Statement
by the government of the Russian Federation
According
to regulations III/17 and III/16 of the International Convention for the Safety
of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974, as amended, and the requirements of section 6.1
of the International Life-Saving Appliance (LSA) Code, the launching appliance
for a rescue boat which is not one of the ship's lifeboats shall be slewed in
the outboard position by the use of stored mechanical power for lowering the
rescue boat onto the water by gravity.
The
Government of the Russian Federation wishes to notify that manual operation is
permitted for slewing the launching appliance of light rescue boats and gives
notification of the following equivalent arrangements to paragraph 6.1.1.3 of
the LSA Code under the provisions of regulation I/5 of the 1974 SOLAS
Convention.
On
ships equipped with a rescue boat which is not one of the ship's lifeboats,
having a mass not more than 550 kg in fully equipped conditions, with engine
but without the crew, the launching appliance of the boat does not need to be
fitted with stored mechanical power.

of the launching appliance shall be possible by one person under unfavorable
